As a small child in Germany, I traveled with my German father and American mother to many of Europe's most famous cities. My father's family name, von Hoyningen-Huene, can be traced to the thirteenth century. With our deep ties to Europe it was an amazing contrast to then move to the wide open spaces of New Mexico.

Coming from an artistic and musical family made it natural to pursue my own interests in art. Before medical school, my father wanted to be a potter and my mother was an art teacher and an artist/ photographer.  Along with them my extended family includes numerous musicians, a sculptor, photographers (one of which was George Hoyningen-Huene of the 30's Paris), a flute and recorder maker, a curator, and gallery owner.

I've always loved painting, drawing, and sculpting. My earliest inspiration was from the castles of Europe and later the landscapes I found myself surrounded by here in the Southwest.

Having won awards for painting in school and local shows, including the N.M. State Fair, I wanted to learn how to frame my own artwork. Framing turned out to be a perfect match for my abilities with people, artists, style, color and design, and to work with my hands. I've continued to paint on a limited basis, sometimes on commission, especially miniatures, for which I won the Bardean Award at the Masterworks of N.M. 2002. I have  also framed art for national award winning painters and needleworkers.

In my 24 years of framing my special affinity for miniatures seems to have made me specially suited to touch up the artwork that is a daily aspect of picture framing. This includes all types of frameable art along with paintings, prints, photos and frames of every imaginable finish. The last 15 years of working at Weems Gallery in Albuquerque has expanded my repair abilities to include pottery, sculpture, figurines, and works in wood, metal and glass. All this has given me extensive experience with all types of materials and techniques.

Now I receive so much work that I have cut back on framing and am devoting most of my time to repairs and restoration in my home studio. I work with galleries, frame shops, art dealers, collectors and anyone with damaged art they love.

It's a real pleasure to see the joy on peoples faces when they see their treasured art restored to it's original beauty. I still paint my own artwork, but I get just as much satisfaction restoring the work of others.
